God started us on a journey that lead from pastoring a church in North Prairie, WI to serving as missionaries in Accra, Ghana. The result of that journey has been the establishment of West African Mercy Ministries; the creation and construction of House Of Mercy (HOMe), a hospice/children’s home for terminally ill and special needs children; and the planting of Hope Community Baptist Church, a mercy-based church in Nsawam, Ghana.

This journey began because we wanted to know God experientially, so we give ourselves to mercy ministry. Why? Because extending mercy is what it means to know God (Jer. 22:16), and knowing God is worth more than anything else in all the world (Phil. 3:8-10).

We wanted to love God actively, so we give ourselves to mercy ministry. Why? Because Jesus said “as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” (Matt. 25:31-46). Active involvement in mercy ministry becomes our means of actively loving our Lord.

We wanted to worship God purely, so we give ourselves to mercy ministry. Why? Because pure and unadulterated worship is “to visit orphans and widows in their affliction” (Jas. 1:27). And God richly blesses those involved in mercy-based worship of him (Is. 58:1-10).

And we want to help others do the same. We believe others share our desire for this kind of relationship that God offers to those involved in mercy ministry. We want WAMM to be a vehicle through which people can establish their own ministries of mercy even if they can’t make Ghana their home.
